Q: What does it mean to you to be a Woman Warrior?
A:To me, being a Woman Warrior means inspiring people to put aside any shred of self doubt or fear they may have and learn to believe that with dedication and resilience, they truly can do ANYTHING and the gratification from proving to yourself that you and you alone have achieved your goal is the most liberating feeling in the world..
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from inside and outside of the gym?
A: I get inspiration from people in the gym who I know haven’t necessarily met their fitness goal yet, but are so dedicated and driven and keep going back every day and pushing themselves. Outside of the gym, I am inspired by my mom, my boyfriend, my friends and everyone else who makes me want to be the best ME I can be..
Q: What was a turning point in your life that led you to fitness or changed your relationship with fitness?
A: The turning point in my life that led me to fitness was about 4 years ago. At that time, I had been modeling for 5 years already and had seen the ugly side of the business. At 16, I had my first job modeling for a scarf catalog and after seeing the pictures on their website I remember thinking, “Oh my god, thats…not my body.” They had photoshopped me 30 pounds lighter. Needless to say, I wanted to look like the me in those photos. For years after I was so self conscious and hated how I looked and felt. Finally after moving from New York to Los Angeles I broke down one day after a casting. I cried to my best friend and remembered saying, ""I want to have a chance here. I want to feel good. I want to love how I look and not hate myself every day.” The next day I woke up at 5am and went to the gym. I meal prepped. I experimented with different foods to see what would give me energy. And for THREE YEARS I saw no change. 5am, 6 days a week, for 3 YEARS! I was convinced I would never see any results and that I was doing this all for nothing but I kept going. Last year I woke up, looked in the mirror, and it was as if 30 pounds melted off of me in my sleep. It was insane. But the feeling I have knowing that I DID THIS and that no one can take it away from me is so powerful and I want every woman to be able to feel that and know they can do anything.
